I am frequently asked, how can I conquer those cravings for junk food?  The answer is simple yet deeply rooted in our DNA and cultural practices.  I will try to make this brief but make sure it is useable knowledge.

Fats and sugars are like happy pills for the brain. When consumed they trigger a euphoric response.  How can we stop relying on fats and sugars to give us this feeling?  Well, I’m glad you asked.  One step is to identify the trigger.  Are you tired, sleepy, sad, bored, lonely, or frustrated?

When I began this journey, I was able to stick to a very strict diet and fitness regimen during the day but when the dishes were done, the floor swept, and the kidos were in bed I found myself sitting on the couch consumed in thought about chocolate cookies, cake or anything of the like.  In reality what I needed was a bath, my spouse and/or some much needed sleep.  For some reason, somewhere along the journey I allowed the busyness of life to negate core nutrition and meaningful relationships with a twisted obsession with food that was deceiving and very unhealthy.

So, here is a simply put but effort required answer:
1.       Eliminate or reduce stress. Stress causes us to crave serotonin boosters.  In the beginning of time, this could be satisfied with consuming a nutritious and delicious fruit.

2.      Assess the urge-before you gorge or engage in a moment of ecstasy with your sugary or fat laden friend, take the time to assess the after effects.  Ask yourself what else can I do instead of eating this?  What is your body trying to tell you?  While you are trying to assess the situation, drink a bottle of water and snack on a few almonds.

3.      Connect on a relational level with your partner, a friend from bloggersdiet.com, a local friend or the like.  If you aren’t able to connect, go for self-expression by blogging your feelings at bloggersdiet.com. Register today!

There you have it in a nutshell.  If I can kick the habit, I have faith that you too can be a conqueror.  Let us know how you feel, sign-up and begin your healthy future TODAY!
